How it Works
(easy as 1 2 3...)
Cool Kids Groove offers the best private music lessons for young children in Los Angeles, providing them with an invaluable opportunity to cultivate a skill that can last a lifetime. Some lesson providers will accept young students, but very few actually specialize in or have a primary focus and method for kids ages 4-12. Learning a musical instrument at this early stage in development can yield many benefits. Numerous studies have concluded that children who study an instrument at a young age tend to perform better in all subjects, get along better with others, and even stay out of trouble more than those who don’t. Our specialized and safety-certified instructors implement songs, games and activities to give each student a rich background in music while learning their instrument. We strive to provide each student with an ultimately positive musical experience, focusing as much on FUN as on technique and training.
Our Team of Instructors
After being handpicked for their skill, experience, and enthusiasm, our teachers undergo a thorough interview, professional and personal reference check, intensive training session, and a criminal background check – ensuring quality and safety for our students and their families. Our team members are established musicians of the highest caliber with a passion for teaching kids, offering vast experience and insight. We require all teachers to go through the same rigorous screening and certification process, making sure that each and every student we encounter is given a high quality, safe, fun, and positive learning experience.
We have been using Cool Kids Groove for our kids’ private music lessons for one year now. We are extremely happy with the level of knowledge of the teachers, their ability to make learning fun, their flexibility in scheduling our lessons, and the bond they have been able to create with our kids. They have exhibited amazing patience with our kids, and the kids have kept getting better every week!! Even though their lessons are often right after school ends, the kids look forward to their music lessons!!!
Lucciana brings the joy of music into our home every week. The style of teaching espoused by Cook Kids Groove leads with play, enrichment and engagement. While the children feel empowered to create music and have fun, there is a very considered underlying musical pedagogy. I have the confidence that my children are learning the functional and academic aspects of music in an environment that allows them to be their best creative selves.
I have found Cool Kids Groove to be an excellent resource for musical learning. One of the best aspects of this service is that you don’t have to drive anywhere! They will come to you! Also, the teachers at Cool Kids Groove are upbeat and fun. Both my developmentally delayed child and my genius child love their music lessons. It’s a treat they actually look forward to. I highly recommend this business. On another note: always punctual, polite, lighthearted, kind, encouraging, and organized.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where do you offer lessons?
We have instructors located all over the greater Los Angeles area and surrounding cities. Our teachers conveniently come to you for in-home lessons.
Here are some of the neighborhoods we teach in: Santa Monica, Venice, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Mar Vista, Pasadena, West LA, Marina Del Rey, Culver City, Miracle Mile, Brentwood, Hancock Park, Downtown, Beverly Hills, Studio City, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Glendale, Burbank, Atwater Village, and more.
To find out if we have an instructor near you, call us at (424) 625-8503, or send us a message
Does my child need their own instrument?
Yes. Our teachers do not provide instruments for the lesson, and it is important that the student owns their own instrument to practice on. If you need any assistance finding the right instrument to choose, call us anytime at (424) 625-8503.
Do you check your instructors’ background records?
Yes, all of our instructors undergo a criminal background check as well as a personal reference check to ensure safety for you and your family.
What if I need to cancel a lesson?
We only bill you for lessons that actually happen. If something comes up and you need to cancel or move a lesson, just make sure to let your instructor know within 24 hours of the lesson. You can decide with the instructor whether to reschedule or cancel the lesson for that week. Same-day cancellations may result in a forfeited lesson.
How often do you schedule lessons?
We generally recommend weekly lessons that occur on the same day and time each week. Children seem to function best on a consistent schedule, and one lesson per week tends to be a good rate of learning for most students. We do have some very eager students that take lessons twice a week.
We offer flexible scheduling and always do our best to find a time that works well for you. We recommend ordering a lesson series of 4 or more, in order to maintain a consistent schedule and keep billing simple. There is a discount when you order 4 or more lessons at a time.
What will my child be learning?
We make it a priority to give each student a well-rounded background in musical concepts and knowledge, regardless of their instrument. Our instructors use songs, games, and activities to introduce new ideas, and repetition to make things stick. As lessons move along, we do our best to help students develop a repertoire on their instrument, and encourage lots of creativity along the way.
When working with young kids, keeping them engaged is of utmost importance, and being able to adjust the lesson plan depending on a child’s mood is key. A piano lesson can often turn into a songwriting session; a guitar lesson can morph into a dance party, etc. We aim to leave students feeling great about music, feeling confident in their skills, and constantly expanding the boundaries of their potential.
Do I need to be there for the lesson?
We do require that a parent or guardian is in the house at all times. It is important to have the lesson in a quiet room, free of distractions. One of our main priorities is keeping students engaged and focused. You do not need to sit with your child during the lesson – use it as free time for you!
What ages do you teach?
We generally work with students ages 4-12. Most of our students are in the 4-8 range. Our approach is geared towards giving young children a fun, positive musical experience and encouraging as much creativity and development as possible. We have seen very young children excel and make amazing progress in many areas through musical instrument lessons, and are always thrilled to take part in that kind of growth. Having a passion for working with children is a unique trait, and something we look for in each and every one of our instructors.
How much do your lessons cost?
The cost depends on the length of the lesson, and there is a discount when you order 4 or more lessons at a time. Refer to our Pricing Section for details.
We use a safe and secure online billing system that accepts payment via credit or debit cards through PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can easily enter your payment info and pay as a guest. We will send you a direct link whenever it is time to renew your lesson series.
There are no extra or hidden fees–including no registration fees.
Do you offer a free trial lesson?
We start all new students with a risk-free trial lesson. Here is how it works: we carefully match you with an instructor we think will be a good fit, and there is no upfront fee for the first lesson. If you are not 100% satisfied with the introductory lesson, we will not charge you for it. If you are happy and ready to sign up, we’ll send you a link to either order a lesson series, or you can pay for one lesson at a time. There is a discount if you order 4 or more lessons at a time.
Do you sell instruments for kids?
We do not do retail sales, BUT we do have product endorsement relationships with some of the best instrument makers in the world. If you are considering buying a new instrument for your child, chances are we can get you a great deal, or at the very least steer you in the right direction. If you need any assistance finding an instrument, or would just like to discuss your options, call to speak to an expert anytime at (424) 625-8503 or send us a message.
How often should my child be practicing?
No matter how much fun we have in our lessons, it is very common for young students to not be thrilled about practicing. But learning music is truly a case of ‘getting out of it what you put into it.’ Playing their instrument a minimum of 3 times per week for at least 15 minutes will keep students on task and help greatly with retention. Encourage them to play more if they seem to enjoy practicing.
Your instructor will send a lesson diary after each lesson that explains what the student should be working on before the next lesson.
What if I have a friend that wants lessons for their child?
We gain a lot of new students by friend referrals. As a way of saying thanks, we will credit you one free lesson if you send someone our way and they end up signing up!
Simple pricing for private lessons – no hidden registration fees
Price is based on the lesson length you choose. It’s the same across the board – all instrument programs, regardless of what part of town you live in. If you’re uncertain about the best choice for your child, call (424) 625-8503 anytime to speak with a lesson specialist, or send us a message.
30 Minute Lesson $45
This is a good starting point for very young students and beginners. Just enough time to cover some new material each week while holding their attention span.
45 Minute Lesson $55
The most popular choice! 30 minutes often becomes too short when a student is really engaged, while 60 can be
a bit long for young
60 Minute Lesson $65
We generally recommend 60 minute lessons only for older and/or very advanced students, or for two students taking lessons concurrently.
Save Money with our Lesson Series Packages
We offer a discount when you order 4 or more lessons at a time. This not only makes scheduling simpler and more consistent for you and us,
it also saves you a few dollars per lesson. It’s a win-win! You will find a simple drop-down menu with the lesson package options when we
send you a direct link to order lessons.
Refer a Friend and Get Rewards!
Because we have such happy customers, we get a lot of new students through referrals. Getting your child’s friends involved with the program lets them share in similar interests and makes it all that more fun. Or maybe you have friends with children that love music and may want to start learning an instrument? Either way, as a way of saying thanks, we will gift you a free lesson credit for every family you refer to us that ends up signing up!
